01 Mar Where to Stay in Medellín

POBLADO

Tiger Hostel  is right in the heart of Poblado, a 5 minute walk to Parque Lleras and a variety of cafes and restaurants. Dorms start at CBP 22,000 and private rooms at CBP 75,000 nightly. Each bed has its own locker, reading lamp and electrical adaptor for your gadgets, plus wifi signal. You wont ever have to leave your bed! Stay here if you are a digital nomad and if your life depends on a fast internet connection. They have the fastest and most consistent wifi among all the hostels I’ve stayed at in Medellin. Several areas to chill and a widescreen TV for those nights you’d rather chill than party. If you’re in the mood for some action, walk a kilometer north on Calle 10  to find Roc House, a spacious bouldering gym that arranges rock climbing tours on the weekends.

Galería Hostel has its own bar on the top floor and happenin’ even on weekdays when it’s quiet everywhere else. Dorm beds start at CBP 26,000 and private at 75,000 nightly. Definitely the best place to stay if you want a party atmosphere. Rooms are quite cozy, although you may need earplugs if you want to sleep earlier than midnight during the weekend’s revelry. Resident cats and bestfriends Dali and Freida will cuddle up to you if you let them. Try to book in advance because they fill up quite fast! Also worth checking out their other branches, in Isla Grande and another one in Guatapé, situated right smack in the best location you could ever ask for. Thank me later!

LAURELES

Head over to Laureles if you need a break from the revelry of Poblado. Green Hill Hostel is situated in a quiet and lovely residential area but close enough to some restaurants and supermarkets. Dorm beds start at CBP 25,000 per night. I stayed here during my Spanish Yoga Immersion course and the receptionists were happy to help me with my homework! They provide towels and soap, bathrooms have consistent hotwater. There’s also free coffee and iced tea round the clock and a possibility of Twister when there are more people around.

Buddha Hostel prides itself as being an art boutique and is quite a social place to chill. Don’t confuse this one with the other one in Poblado, they are not related. Dorm beds start at USD $12 and private rooms at USD $31 nightly with a light breakfast. The receptionists are quite helpful and also bilingual in both Spanish and English. I like that the place offers loads of information on what you can do in the city and the rest of Colombia as well. Just a few steps away from some restaurants and supermarkets. There’s a bouldering gym right in front of, just look for the orange building. Rooms fill up quite fast so secure your spot a couple of days in advance.
